March 4" 1868 O.L.S.D.C. No 1546 | Browne A.K. Agent &c E.B.2" Vol 195. 1868. | Washington D.C. Feb'y 15" 1868. In reply to letter asking what action has been taken in the case of Maria Pearson (col'd) vs. Thomas Lucas et.al.
States that in May 1867, he had Lucas & two others arrested on charge of "Malicious Trespass" for tearing down part of a house in which Mrs. Pearson lived.
She justice sent some of the parties to the Central Guard House, but Major Richards interfeared & released them.
Has had considerable difficulty & labor in this matter without accomplishing much. Had hoped to effect a compromise between the mother & daughter in law, but now fears it is impossible, in which event the only remedy will be resort to Court in Equity, which would require cost in advance and involve lengthy legislation, which the small amount of claim would scarcely warrant.
