Bureau Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands,
Headquarters Ass't Commissioner, District Columbia, Employment Office
Washington, April 17, 1867.

Sir,
I have the honor to call your attention to the case of an aged Freedman by the name of Lancaster Friend, who comes to my office and says he has children in Chesterfield County Va near the Court House. He is seeking transportation, but until I can learn from these parties his sons = Hannibal or Robert Friend = whether or not they are able, and willing to care for the old man & his wife, I cannot request transportation. We have written to these parties at Chesterfield Va but no answer has been received
