Washington April 26th, 1867

General C.H. Howard

Sir

I send the note of the Matron of the Colored Home to show the trouble arising from vagrants being sent to the Home, and earnestly request that another place may be provided for such children.

The rules of the Institution are not to admit children over twelve years or under two years of age, we have sometimes taken children under two years of age, when there was no place for them, last week a babe four months old was sent from the Hospital at Freedmen's Village which obliges us to be at the expense of another nurse, at the same time we know [[crossed-out]] thinking [[crossed-out]] it has been sent from a place where they could take care of it.

Respectfully Yours
Eliza Heacock Sect.
