Inspector of Schools.

Reports that he has inspected the National Farm School, under the supervision of H. de Mariel, Esq., and finds "the children neither governed nor taught, and in a most pitiable physical & moral condition."

Recommends that a Reform school be started and that the children be transferred thereto, &c.

Respectfully referred to Bvt Brig Genl C H Howard, Asst Commr District of Columbia, with the remark that reports of a similar character have before reached the Commissioner.

He is directed to cause a thorough investigation to be made, and if he finds that the statements made in this report are true, he will cease to furnish any further supplies to this institution from this Bureau, and notify Mr de Mariel that the children will be provided for elsewhere.

He will then cause it to be made public that this Bureau has withdrawn from all connection with this School.
