Lieutenant,
I have the honor to forward herewith Transportation from Washington D.C. to Ashland, Va. for Grace Philips, a freed girl, aged 10 yrs. now residing with a lady in Washington with whom she was placed by her former owner Mr Thos R Bird, resident of this city.

The name and residence of the lady was not known but they can readily be found by inquiry of Mr Bird or his family.

This Transportation was issued upon request from this Office of May 16th, made upon the earnest solicitation of the girl's mother, who is very desirous of having her child restored to her.

I submit this statement with the request that the proper officer be instructed to forward the girl to this place where her mother now resides.
