Bureau Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands,
Headquarters Ass't Commission, District Columbia,
Washington, August 3rd, 1867.

Bvt. Maj S. N. Clark
Acting Local Superintendent. D.C

Major.

The attention of the Assistant Commissioner has been called to the fact that a large number of freed people are being sent to Providence R.I., principally by Mrs. Griffing, and employed at Brickmaking in that vicinity, which work will cease, on the close of summer and the freed people will thereby be thrown out of employment.

He directs that care be taken not to send too many to that point, but send them to Hartford Connt and vicinity where permanent employment can be secured for them

Very respectfully.
Your obedient servant,
Wm. W. Rogers
A. A .A Genl.
