Elizabeth, N.J. Sep 2nd 1867 Dear General Can you procure for me two negro servant woman (single), one, a good cook, washer and ironer, and the other a good dining-room servant and chamber-maid. Liberal wages will be given them, if they are capable and understand their business. I have been giving 8.$ a month for cooking, washing and ironing and $7 a month for chamber-maid and dining-room servant. Those I have now, I brought with me from Baltimore, on a contract for six months, which is now nearly out. and they are going back, because they have their relatives there. They [[strikethrough]] [[?]] with me [[strikethrough]] have been with me for four years. I left Baltimore for this place in March last, where I am residing. My family is small, consisting of four persons, two gentlemen and their wives. We treat out servants kindly, give them a comfortable room and bed, and they have on their table just what [] I should like those who have served in some of the first families of Virginia. They are generally well taught. []
