[[Indecipherable]] Scott Jesse 1557 Colored States that his daughter was illegally held to service by a Mr Eddinger of Greenwood, Carroll Co, Mississippi, that about 3 weeks ago he saw Mr Eddinger, but he refused to let her go; that he laid the matter before Mr Goff an agent of the Bureau in Grenada, Yalobusha Co Miss, who sent his deputy Mr Morrison to see Mr Eddinger; that finally when he did obtain his daughter, he was kept waiting 19 days (at an expense of $2.00 per day) for his daughter's wardrobe valued at $500. Asks the Assistance of the Bureau in recovering the clothes or their equivalent in money and the amount of his expenses while waiting for them — in all $538.00 [[?]], Miss. 1868 [[five official stamps over official signature]] Bureau R.F. and A.L. Office Local Supt D.C. Washington March 14, 68 Respectfully forwarded. This case is worthy of investigation, the writer (Scott) called at this office during the month of January and asked for advice relative to obtaining his daughter — he was advised to go to Mississippi personally, he now states that he was - charged ten (10) dollars by Mr Morrison, deputy agent of this Bureau, for attending to this business. I trust that justice may be done in the premises, as this man (Scott) has spent 2 years savings as a sailor, in the commendable project of relieving his daughter from involuntary servitude — at no cost to the Government.
