China and Japan, and consist mostly of Crustaera. 

The specimens of Cephalopods sent by Prof Steenstrup are all of small size, and, being nicely packed in cotton in the jars in which they were received, and the alcohol remaining strong, I have not opened them.
 
The barrelful of shells received from Mr Wheeler, of Cape May, N.J. contained many specimens of several common species, which it was desirable to include in the duplicate sets now being prepared for distribution. These specimens were sent at the request of the Museum, Mr Wheeler having previously offered to collect them.
