Following is an account of the work accomplished in this department, during the month of February, just passed.

Mr. Hawley has finished mounting the dried exhibition series of Echinoderms, which were selected for him in January. The groups mounted by him during this month were the Asteroidea, represented by 105 specimens, and the Ophiuroidea, represented by 83 specimens. As there was no more work on hand for Mr. Hawley, he has been transferred to another department, with the understanding that he should return to this department at some future time, to finish the mounting of the exhibition series. There are now prepared for mounting a number of specimens of sponges and Gorgonians for which no tablets have been made. These tablets have been recently ordered and will soon by ready for use.

Mr. Blish has finished sorting the specimens received from the Gloucester fishermen, and has catalogued the same. He has also sorted materials recently received from Wood's Hole, Mass., and has continued his readings on the subjects of
