V. DASH-1 chapter 9 1. (p 9-1) Book says turn on pitot heat & anti-ice "when necessary." When is it necessary? PITOT HEAT: NASA recommendation, turn it on in the chocks, off when taxiing back. Required when visible moisture exists. ANTI-ICE: takes away engine thrust...necessary only immediately before entering icing conditions 2. Remember: after single engine TO or single engine go, don't raise flaps until KIAS = 190. 3. Remember: holding at all altitudes should be performed at 250 knots , holding patterns = right turns unless specified 4. Note: dash-1 has changed recommended penetration airspeed to 300 KIAS (from 280), and pattern entry airspeed to 300 KIAS (from 280) 5. New gauge: to level off, reduce pitch by factor of 2 ~1000' before desired altitude. 6. Remember: T38 is category E, but can be considered category D for an approach if carrying < 2000 lbs of gas
