VII 1. External AC power is applied to phase B of the right AC bus. It powers the right bus, & therefore the left bus (through the contactor relay) and the DC bus (through the transformer-rectifiers). NOTE: (1) You can only tell if the battery is operating if you switch it on before external AC is applied. 2) AC can be used for a start only [[note]] ? -> [[/note]] if the cart is in the "bypass" mode. 2. Frequency of AC has to be between 320 & 480 cps to avoid damage to electronics. A generator is driven off an engine shaft — 43-48% RPM ≈ 320 cps... in order to keep frequency within range, the gear ratio must shift at ~65% RPM ... then 100% ~ 480 cps. 3. There are 2 independent AC buses - they can't be gauged because they're AC, driven off different sources, & wouldn't be in phase. 4. If a generator drops off line, the switch does not have to be taken to the "RESET" position; also true if it's just flipped "OFF." [[note]] ? --> [[/note]] Then why the RESET position?
