Dear old girl:

We left Santiago last night & are now sailing over what I take to be the Caribbean Sea, heading for Tela, Honduras. We should make it Thursday morning (the 8th) and reach Barrios that evening. We shall probably have to stay a day at Barrios, and shall not start for Amates before the 10th.

We reached Santiago Sunday night - our anniversary = and Ashmead, Harmon, Yates, & I went on shore about 7, telling our boatman to return for us at 11. We walked around the little customs house

where a scuffle between two niggers was in progress, & got into an open barouche to be driven to the Plaza. All these Spanish towns center about one or more plazas. The main one at Santiago is a square about 200 feet square with cross walks and a promenade, containing in the interior corners four little plots of trees & flowers.
