I can't mail your letter till this afternoon, so might as well string along till then.

Last night the telephone rang and Pa answered it, and came away chuckling, "Those two kids up above are going to hang a maybasket, so you watch out." And pretty soon a big hammering was heard at the back door and a scrambling off the steps. I went out and chased them, catching Henry and then Ralph, they were squealing with delight. Then Ralph played his little pieces at the piano and Henry entertained me by saying he got all A's and B's at school except in Writing and Drawing, in which he could get only E's and D's. He looked very woe begone over that. And it made me think of your capabilities in those two lines, — formerly. My mother said "He writes plainly anyway," of you. I wish you were here to have some of Maud's fudge. They certainly were generous in their hanging.
