this morning, & are now passing it on our right (which is starboard). It is a little long low sandy island with a few trees showing. After we pass it we won't see land again until tomorrow night when we shall reach Santiago. There is considerable uncertainty as to whether we shall be allowed to go ashore or not. I hope so, for I want to collect some plants, & certainly need a haircut. 

We have had fine weather with a brisk breeze all along so far. All of us are in good condition, & getting tired of ship life. I have

been improving my Spanish very much by talking with a Spaniard who is a passenger, & I have got a good practical knowledge of Spanish numbers thru playing a lottery game for a good many hours off and on in which I managed to lose about fifty cents. I am willing to swap it for my increased knowledge of Spanish.

I do wish you could be here with me. I felt pretty homesick last night, for the first time since I was in N.B. in 1913. When we get on land & I have a chance
