As I looked at the Radio bulletin, with its account of earthquakes in Salvador & scrapping in Costa Rica, it occured to me that today is our anniversary. It is hard to tell you how much I miss you. I don't see you in the morning, or at noon, or at night, & all I can do is loaf around the deck or play cards or lottery with Antonio & Humon (he is the short man we met at the Consulate & at the dock & is an engineer going along with Ashmead). If you could only be along we should have just a perfect

time. I don't believe you would have been seasick, for Ant & his wife have not been & the Spaniards are said to be poor sailors. 

Tomorrow, if we get on shore, I expect I shall have to buy a Palm Beach suit. I discovered to my sorrow that we had forgotten my new shoes- we must have left the darn things in the hotel. I wish you would write them, inclosing [[enclosing]] about 50ยข in stamps, & ask them to send them on to you. No use in forwarding them to me. -it will be easy to get a pair in Porto Barrios, & they wouldn't get down in time to be of much use. 
Monday, arrived in Santiago last night & will probably get off today. Will write again after we leave Human in Guatemala. Best love S.
