Dear Sid:

I have only a minute to spare before I must get this mailed, but I wanted to get it off. I am ashamed that I didn't get my first letter off sooner, and hope you received it Sat. at the Dept. but can hardly believe you did. 

At last my mother has taken to someone, and hired her on the spot, and it seemed to me that she was a suitable person too, without any especial nerves and cheerful and honest. She is cousin to Mary Kate Phinney who married Eldon Holmes, - if you know who they are. - at least the names are familiar as they were to me. Her name is Blanche Barry (Mrs. and a widow who dyes her hair and pinkens her cheeks somewhat) and my mother knew her mother's sister at least, and this person, about 50, is well acquainted in town, plays cards with Alice Woods, etc. and quite sporty. Personally she is the last one I should want, but Ma is quite different and wants that rather over lively a bit vulgar perhaps, personality to laugh and joke with. Ma craves life and lively people. You know how she takes to Mr. Brides &  his nurses. Your mother seemed to like the same Letty Clark sort. I guess she can get
