In the event Pa keeps on in this state indefinitely. I hesitate to lay out $21 weekly on a man to watch nights. I had thought of staying perhaps another fortnight and offering Mrs.O $14 a week for night nursing while I did the day work, but don't know whether she would agree. Then I thought of Freddy Stickney, but didn't believe he would do both day & night work unless he slept with Pa and kept one eye open. He is used to the situation at any rate. But I hate to let go the man we have on the uncertainty of Freddy. What would you do? This condition can't go on as far as I am concerned forever. I want to return, and you can't consider another trip up as soon as I get back. I have the feeling that Dr. Ewing had, that he can't last forever, and that it is a matter of weeks. At any rate, I can't leave Ma here alone under this uncertainty, but I want to come back to you.

Doris.
