Dear Sid:

I bought my Pullman berth ticket back for Sunday P.M. and shall be there unless anything happens Monday bright and early. Lena is coming out Sunday and I hope Pa will be reconciled to my leaving then. He doesn't want me to go & says gloomily that I can't go then, I shall have to stay. But I can't stay any longer. All he requires now is quiet and rest and if they can only keep him so - a pretty hard job - he will get on for a time. In fact it is better I do not stay about the house much because my presence makes him more nervous. He wants to talk & argue and he can't with my mother. "She doesn't know anything",
