flash saying " Don't want to see him - don't let him in ". So I had to get rid of him. I can't stir out but what people flash about ... Pa is as well known as anyone in town.

Ralph is all upset, & mad too, about bank affairs. He was getting regular commissions on it, as business increased, but now his salary is fixed at $3000 and no more, and when I asked how much it cut him he said about $1000. It was all precipitated by his trying to get Henry in, and I advised very strongly against any further attempts. Pa is on his side & it was in that meeting he fought so for Ralph that his trouble began. Ewing said if he didn't give up that coop, it would be the death of him, & said some very derogatory things about Ralph involving him in it. Ewing regards him as you do, so don't get mad at his bluntness.

I am going to try to put in most of today at Cambr. It is better for Pa to have me away.

I am on the train with Helen Curtis & B. Monk now & trying to finish up this while they chat.

I wish that I could be in reach easier. Pa expressed the wish to have Lena come when I go. She at least can tend to the little things that fret him so much & maybe relieve my mother a little. I pity my mother terribly. He is reconciled to my going Sunday P.M. R. hasn't said anything about taking me in, but guess he will. I am looking forward to seeing you, but do hate to leave my poor folks.
