Dear Sid:

Pa is going down with Ralph & me to the store early this morning, and Pa wants to show me some of his papers. I don't know how much I shall make of them.

What I have decided to do, if I can arrange it, is to have Talbot take care of the store finances for Pa, and see that things get paid for and all in straight. Pa can't add up a column of figures now, but maybe he can later. If Talbot will do it, that will solve the store. Pa keeps track of things now pretty well, knows what is due, but can't figure up.
later

I have looked thru Pa's stuff,- there isn't much to look after. I shall take care of my coop. shares now, turn Lena's back to her, and tell Ma how to look after my father's. He has a Masonic Casualty insurance kept since 1908, but whether he can at present get anything out of it, I don't know. He is counting a good deal on it, and will be disappointed if he can't. Talbot said he would be willing to help on the store end, -there wasn't anything much to be done there anyhow-and Jim will pay the bills as far as he can "out of the drawer" and get a receipt. There is bound to be a deficit, but I shall consider it as a doctor's bill, and essential to keep Pa together. Ralph took me down to Jeddie Bird's meadow where I am sorry to say, not a trace of dog tooth violet remains... too many cows.
