return to work. till he has been able to explain a few things. He wants to get down to the store tomorrow with me, and I shall have to pacify him by letting him go, I suppose. But I am anxious about returning, and want to get someone here who can look after things a bit. I am hesitating between Talbot & Rob Swan. Talbot & Pa get along beautifully, and with Jim Capen's help maybe they could run the store,–– Jim tending it & Talbot seeing that the bills were looked after––till Pa gets on his feet, if he ever does. Pa cannot talk to the drummers, can only sign his name & with difficulty reads now, but if he isn't too tired, I think his understanding is pretty well. He managed to count his money,––8 $5 this morning, but would have been stuck at any thing more complicated.

Tell me what you think about staying.

Doris.

(I am scratching this off in the station, waiting to get to Boston).

I am sorry Mrs. C. has to forego her appt. this afternoon. I miss you & the baby. Pa said without any suggestion from me "Perhaps your woman (he wouldn't tell her name) would come up & look after me some of these days."
