Dear Sid:

It looks like a rainy day,- ushered in by a gentle shower before light, but it is only muggy now. The old cat has ventured out the side door and is sitting on the steps. Ma looks at him and says, "He won't go far, it's so wet". He likes that post,- there are a number of cats that live across the way and he enjoys watching them from afar. A blue jay has marked his presence already, and a robin is giffing too.
   
Doris is making up her bed on the porch after doing the dishes while I stirred up a batch of bran muffins. We haven't had a fire in the kitchen stove most of the week, it being so hot, but the family is starved out for baked things,- Ma in particular hungering after "little cakes", so I have a rice pudding, bran muffins, and as soon as the muffins are out the cakes.  Doesn't that make you hungry too? But you will be here in a week.
   
Doris and Mabel spent all yesterday afternoon swimming in the Brockton pond, diving chiefly. They didn't get home til 6.30, and D. was tired out and ate all there was on the table. I think the outdoors is good for her, and I don't worry over the Brockton pond. I had a dip in York pond too, but was home quickly. I didn't see the owner. I picked up a few berries on the
