Colcord with M.'s mother was over yesterday and said Mr. B was on his vacation when she stopped there some days ago. I know that Miss Bryant will be there - her days are Mon. Wed. & Friday, so I can get at the collection.

Mrs. Willis sent me 2 letters, one from Brunn who wrote an acknowledgment of mine, and the other from Otero. I had written Brunn that I was naming a species for Otero, who collected a number of good things for me & at one time I was going to name a Megistops for him but it turned out to be a Suffrian species described in a different genus. I think it disappointed him. But this time he has written me the quaintest little letter in true Spanish floweriness (altho in English) and it shows how tickled he was over it.

I hope you aren't getting too tired doing your own chores. I am glad you tried your hand at making ice cream. Did it come out all right? I wish we had a good refrigerator up here. Things go bad so soon.

I met the cat at the steps yesterday coming up to me with a bird in his mouth. I thought it was dead till I saw its terrified eyes, and I grabbed the cat and he opened his jaws and away flew the bird. I think it was a young oriole. We have kept the cat in most of today. If he hadn't been lacking most of his front teeth, I think he would have injured the bird more. He is a wicked old cat.

Doris & Mabel are playing at badminton, enjoying it. It is really better than tennis as it is located right in the yard.
