Stoughton, Mass
31 Aug. 1943.

Dear Sid:
I have just received your letter saying that you were to be back on Wednesday night. I wish you could stay longer, but you may be tired of travelling about. I have decided not to come till after Labor Day. When your note to the effect you weren't going to be back till Sat came, I thought it better not to try to travel home on the Labor Day weekend, but wait till the following Wednesday when presumably travel wouldn't be so great. And my mother wrote to Mrs. Barry not to return till Sept 7. So that lady won't put in her appearance till next week.

I am glad that you have had this good little trip out west and a chance to have a change of faces as well as scenery. After the wretched week you put in up here you deserved a good time. I hope your back isn't troubling you. I feel badly not to be back with you, but under the circumstances can't do much else but adhere to my earlier plans. Doris is looking better, she hasn't gained much, but is pulling up, I believe, for a gain, as soon as cooler weather comes. She is eating her head off 3 times a day, and her complexion is pretty good, too.
I have only $3 left after paying the milk bill, but Doris still has $12, and I [[strikethrough]] caan [[/strikethrough]] can borrow from Ma. I want to go down to see how Teddy Daly is fixed up. Nothing from Kimbis yet, I despair of him. Nothing of any more coal either. But at 50%, we ought to get 2 more tons before Dec. if they have it to give. We got D.'s pair of shoes yesterday at $5.95, 8 1/2, but satisfactory to her, a good Filene shoe of sound leather, quite sensible and lowheeled. Grace Soule's bill was $6.75
Am trying to write & listen to Winston Churchill!
It is your birthday today. I hope you have a good day and plenty to eat. When we get back we will celebrate it somehow. Doris.

I found this pink bladder campion down by the road that turns in to York Pond below Mitchell's. Is it new to the Stoughton Flora?
