This afternoon was so sunny and fine that Doris borrowed Mabel's byke again and we rode down to York pond and had a good swim there. It is the only time I have been in the water this summer and I am determined to get in another swim before I return as I enjoyed it so much. I was able to see that Doris didn't get beyond her depth, and that she came in before she got purple.

When we reached home we found Mabel and Miss Colcord had just arrived from Rockport. Miss Colcord will stay till Monday. She is planning to go back to Wash DC about the first of Sept too. She is as brown and plump from her vacation by the sea as can be. She says that she will come over here before she goes.

I expect Lena will come out Sunday morning and probably stay over till Monday. The pears aren't ripening but I can give her some to take back.

Doris got a 4 lb piece of chuck roast of beef this morning. I wish you could have some of it. We have only a little butter left, shall have to use oleo, I guess.

My mother is reading of the rationing of stores, to take effect in a few days, thought it was coal, and immediately called up Murphy's and demanded her coal, as soon as they could send it!

I don't know as she will get it right off, but I guess it jogged their memories a little.
