is less meat here than in Wash. Or rather I could go about till I found some there, and here we have only 2 or 3 stores. Vegetables are terribly high too. Corn 90 [[cents]] a doz. (but we don't get it). I fear N.E. will feel the famine more than most sections.

I baked beans today, some of the yellow-eyed ones. I wonder if you are opening a can tonight. I guess you will stay at home tomorrow. Are the tomatoes ripening at all yet? And how big are they getting? My lettuce that I planted here is all up nicely.

I haven't heard any more from Darling, so think Teddy Daby didn't take the tenement.

This noon there was a tiny yellow warbler in the Devil's walkingstick tree within a few feet of me.

Our old cat is stretched out in the window seat full of fish heads. He sleeps most all day.
