understands more English than he is willing to admit but Madame has had English and American boarders for fifteen years and dont know a word of English.

Tonight we are going to have what they call a fĂȘte. The musical people were going to regale us with some songs and one or two people from outside also musical are coming and will play and sing they say that they have some very jolly times here about once a week. I hav'nt been down to the city of an evening since I have lived up here. It takes about a half or three quarters of an hour to go down and we are usually tired and dont care to go out. We have beaten the Southen record so far in going to bed, we average eight or half past. Where we are now it is considered the most healthy part of the city it is on a hill and is within stones throw of Victor Hugo the world renowned poet's house: hence the name of the street, Avenue Victor Hugo. I hav'nt seen old boy Vict yet, I suppose he doesn't know I am in town and it is clearly his place to call first. If he does'nt call soon I shall cut him dead the next time I see him on the street. That is if I know him when I do see him

Some of the parks and streets in Paris are beautiful and I am going to paint some of them before I return and then you can see what they dont look like. I expect to study very hard this winter
