The way they decorate their cart horses here is very picturesque I will try to make you a slight sketch from my very deficient memory of the way they look. They are usually white or grey with thick mains and forelocks; then the harness are not small and round but broad and flat. I should think at least six inches broad, they come way out at the top with a curve as I have tried to show in sketch one; Then some of them throw over the top of these big harness a large dark blue blanket or mat of sheep skin with the wool on it. Just like that rug of mother's only dark blue; it makes them very picturesque indeed. The illustrations to this article are very funny indeed, not to say dizzy. Well there are lots of things here that are very picturesque but I think these are just as good ours in America. America is the place after all. We have just had a long harangue on England by Mr. Gallison he thinks that Jonny Bull is the Power of the world at the same time he hates Englishmen like poison. Just at present the carts are going by the house at a rate of about 20 or 30 per minute. It being Sunday now they are going to celebrate the event by a horse race at the Bois de Boulogne which is right near our house.

They have Steeple Chases here on Sunday just as we in America would have them the fourth of July or any other holliday and every one goes. Big barges are driving by with 4 and 6 horses and loaded with people all going to the races.

We are going down to those pictures again this aft. it is now about two oclock. We are also going down to see that Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World wich is going to be at the entrance of New York [[strikethrough]] harbour [[/strikethrough]] harbor; it is completed and not very far from here.

I [[strikethrough]] mss [[/strikethrough]] wish I could write so any one can read it; in answer to this if you ever get it will you tell me truly if you can read half that I write; if so you do well. So Mr. Wells and Mr. Smith enjoyed them selves at your expense, did they? I have no doubt you felt terribly about it. Did you not? Speaking about a photo being company for you, what do you think of [[me?]]. I have yours on my mantle piece, it is a great deal of company I can tell you. I hav'nt had it framed yet for the simple reason that I dont know how to ask for one.

Do these beastly scrawls bore you? If so dont read them but when I get started writing to you
