My Darling little Emmie.

Haven’t had a letter from you for ages. As I wrote I got two or three in one day and not a one since. 

It makes me feel blue. I went down to the Am. Ex. this a.m. and thought to get a lot but one from my dear mother was all. She wrote a nice long one, said you and Harry were over the day before and were going to the Lovetts to call. Also said you all went to ride Thursday and were all home the next day.

Have just bundled off a whole raft of Xmas cards. The one I sent to you was the prettiest one I could get in this dizzy old town. I don’t know but what you will take objection to the verses. I hope not. I expect to start for München (that’s Munich in German)

on Monday or Tuesday. I want to stay 5 or 6 months. I hope to be back to you by first of July God willing. I don’t mean that for swearing at all; but you never can tell what will happen in 6 months. I hope to return all OK by that time. We are going to stop at Antwerp, Brussels, Cologne, Bingen, Mainz and of course we see the Rhine going down there. You see we will have a good chance to gaze on most of the cities in that part of Europe. Mrs. Aldrich and family went today. Graves went down to Liverpool to see them off. He gets back tonight. I’ll bet a hat he will be as blue as indigo tomorrow morn. Poor fellow. I guess we will go to the theatre this eve as it’s rather
