not under cover but right out in the pouring rain. I dont think they would let him stay there if it were in Boston. A little further on we came to a little girl whom some kind people were taking home. She was also trying to sell matches. I guess she was'nt bare footed but she was bare headed. Girls dont catch cold going bare headed. Do they? I think you told me that you never caught cold going bare headed. I may be mistaken I usually am, with my good memory.

Dec. 14. We went to the theatre last eve. Went to Alhambra; it is quite a large one and is built in the Moorish style. Like the Bijou at home only much larger and not so fine in decoration. It is decorated in red, blue and gold. The roof is dark umber with stars on it.

I dont care much for red and blue as a combination of colors. It is now used as a concert hall as they call it; that is it is a variety theatre. There was a very good show there including a very nice ballet called the swans. 

The scene was the edge of a pond with trees overhanging it. First some swans sailed acrost. They were quite natural; they moved their heads and picked their feathers and turned around. &c. then moved on acrost and out of sight Then some girls dressed to represent bull rushes came out, they were all in sea green with weeds hanging from their waists. They did some foolish maneuvers on one leg and then retired. After that the ones dressed as swans came on; also did some balancing and jumping &c. Their costumes were very pretty, all white with swans heads for caps and feather skirts. Then of course there was the prima-
