You see we staid [[stayed]] up to see the old year out and the new one in. Not because we wanted it but because we could'nt [[couldn't]] help ourselves. The scenery coming down here is the finest I ever saw: the Rhine does'nt [[doesn't]] stand a ghost of a chance by the side of it. Some places the rocks go up over 1000 feet straight in the air, and within 5~6 ft of the track, at other times you look down most as many. All the mountains area curved with shore and looked lovely with the sunlight on them.

We have made up our minds to stay here and paint if nothing serious happens. We expect to stay 2 or 3 months and then go home. But of course I dont [[don't]] want to come home without any thing to show for my winter's work. We worked hard in Munich and expect to get some [[strikethrough]] moneey [[/strikethrough]] money for it in London.

We are feeling better than at any time since we left Paris and expect now to do some work as it is decently warm here and the lovliest city I was ever in. I will try to tell you of it from time to time and make you some sketches of the river.

My darling you dont [[don't]] know how I should like to follow your advise and come however, but feel it to be a necessity to have every thing to show for my time spent over here.

Mother wrote that Frank W had an accident but did'nt [[didn't]] say what it was. Tell him I am sorry to hear of it and glad it was not worse.

Have'nt [[Haven't]] had a letter from Harry for over a month and shant [[shan't]] write to him again till I receive one in return. They had a band concert in St. Marks Sq. this aft. and there were hundreds of people [[strikethrough]] owt [[/strikethrough]] out
