the mother of invention you know and it's a cold day when we yankees get left for paint rags. I am going to enclose a photo of the head; the photo doesnt give you any idea of the finish but you can tell what the girl looked like. So the hired man is spending his winter months on that beautiful isle in Boston harbor. Well there is nothing like enjoying yourself. It is'nt [[isn't]] everyone who can take a vacation when ever they like. You must have fared pretty well Xmas. I am sorry I could'nt [[couldn't]] send you a decent present as I think my regard for you amounts to more than a cheap english card.

You are awfully kind to go up to see mother so often and I dont [[don't]] know how to thank you so will wait till I get home and have more time.

You ask me what I am going to do next summer; [[strikethrough]] whe [[/strikethrough]] well for one thing I suppose I shall make my self a nuisance

at the Maples and shall also paint some pictures. I look forward to lots of work and lots of pleasure, (the latter mostly in being where I can see you. That is'nt [[isn't]] guff, it's real solid truth. You have no idea how I look forward to the day when, if I have good luck I shall set foot once more on Yankee land. If they would move the Paris art influences to america it would just suit yours truly. Outside of that they can keep Europe over here as long as they like.

I have been reading Mark Twains [[Twain's]], Travels abroad. What he says about Germany just coinsides [[coincides]] whith [[with]] my ideas. Says he is making a collection of German words, he has them stuffed and keeps them in a glass case. When he has duplicates the [[then]] swaps with some other collector.  From what I read he must have encountered some stunners. They beat even our prize one
