often confiscated - I have had two new one's taken, Beaufresne with water, which makes all the difference in the world - I am now painting, with my models in the boat and I sitting on the edge of the water, and in these warm still September days it is lovely; the trout leaping for flies and when we are still we can see them gliding along. The whole beauty of the place is the water. One of my neighbors who has a stream and dam like mine, told me they had fished a fish and when it was opened found a knife in its stomach, voracious as they are I had not thought that possible; I want you to tell this to Mr Van Rensselaer.

I have been so sorry for poor Mrs Horowitz, what a blow for them. She asked me to find an hotel in the country for her little girl, I did but she was pleased with Chantilly and left her there, but children are better out of hotels, so I must have the babies
