Sept 20th

Dear Rob.

I hopd [[hoped]] to see you all over here, up to md [[mid]] July, but after that I know I shold [[should]] not have that blame. I think you did well not to come considering what the summer has been. It seems that nothing like it has been like it since 1848.    

Now we are having a few days of heat and may have more, [[not/but?]] first [[?]] [[on/in?]] the trees. I suppose you know of [[how?]] [[the?]] attack of grippe it ended on Marta [[?]] & an opration [[operation]] at the [[American?]] hospetal [[hospital]].  Elln [[Ellen]] was was very devoted. I find him a very agreeable man  I had the [[?]] from them to day they landed & I feel so [[lonely?]], for she, Ellen, will here [[hear?]] of her little
