[[margin]] Don't feel it necessary to comply with Aunt Eliza's pious suggestion (of wh. I became aware accidentally) that you sh'd reward me for my letters by occasionally directing one of yours to me, for 1st. I don't need to be rewarded; & 2d if I did, that sort would not do. [[/margin]]

2 PM Grandma's Windowsill
Your ink - "You left behind you"!

Oh! my Leilie dear - so many things crowd in to be said today, how or where shall I begin? The hands are stiff with cold, and pen has no gripp [[grip]].- But instead of a nap - Aunt Eliza goes out. Just shut the gates. Can't foursee [[foresee]] her. "Slowly going, making it do" - Grandma quickly napping in her chair - with lump of Lemon Candy in her mouth! - Family says its my turn to write - If ships laden with your briefs were to founder in the At.O. it would not smash about so freely. "me thinks."- I look out of window & behold Fran Richards with heir [[hair]] in scarlet - & Wharton, in attendance. Also - long braided Donaldson girl striding towards home. - Sky lowering - grey - cold; - sparrows chattering of spring - and house cleaning? - Cecilia filling your vacant room - with dreams, at present - We go tonight - She & I, to hear the "Mendelssohn Club -"

Cecil was high - I can tell you! tried to pull down all before him - Etta has tricked him out in new lace and things on his coat. but she will explain - Glad to hear you have gone with your dress to be tinkered - M.B. says that "dress wasn't anything!" - Don't forget those "beaded wraps"! - Have I told you all, and how we have reminders of you in all corners of the house? - It cannot be that you are "over the ocean wave far far away"! ([[?]] Cecil). - The others have told you about our call from H. Thonson - And how every father & son & mother of [[Drinkers?]] interviewed him! - It was funny - but passed off pleasantly. And how is our dear May, who is such a comfort to our hearts. Bless her for her companionship to our long lost child - Uncle José has not been here yet, but has been seen by C.W.L - I wish he had seen "his'n" before he sailed. Just think how our visit is all over & gone with N.L.A. & she! I wonder if any our guests will come? - If they dont [[don't]] we'll get a new carpet for Grandma's room with the savings! - Those little girls in water proofs - we're offly [[awfully]] glad to have your pics! "If in your hearts a place there be - oh keep that little place for" — ME.
