Harrison have been refused - Philip Hale says he, A.H, is determined to get a medal next year though they wont [[won't]] give them to Americans. Things are getting quite lively at Julian's. A concours is going on between the men's class, The Passage and us. That is the Faubourg St. Honoré. It is a competition for a prize given to the best which we all do - the men have done theirs. The Passage have the model this week and we have her next. The same pose and costume of course. I went to the Passage just today with Miss Wilkins and saw the work and the model. She is a pretty girl in a Japanese costume

holding a jap. parasol over her head. We have her all day from 8. to 5. resting from 12 to 1 - and 10 minutes rest every hour. If you are not an all day pupil you have to pay 15 frs extra to be in the concours - I shall do this. M'lle Baury Saurel [[Beaury-Saurel]] the Masietre [[Maistre?]] at The Passage has had the prize took the last two years. She really ought not to be in it, as she is a Salon medalist and has been there at Julians 15 years.   She is doing a drawing, exquisitely, but I didnt [[didn't]] think it like the model and they care more for character than anything else. Some are doing Pastel. I shall do an oil as I am [[sure?]] at
