Monday morning. Yesterday afternoon I stopped writing to go over to call on Kate's old friend Mlle de Belleur. It was quite a journey and she evidently thought I ought to have come before, as Kate had told her I was coming. I would have gone before if I had known she knew I was here. She was very nice and of course we talked about Mrs. [[Thober?]], and all her old friends. I took the children's photos and yours to show her, and was sorry I did not have the baby's which I am crazy for. She seemed very while delicate and alone, and I was sorry for her. I shall go and see her again when I come back in the fall. She says she taught Harry to read.
   
I was quite relieved when Dr Bacon's week here was over. None of them liked him, and he did'nt appear to advantage. I was sorry for him. I don't think he meant to be too nice to me, but he was, and they all thought him a rebounding widower which utterly disgusted me of course. The trouble is that he does too much what he feels like doing, and is a good deal of an egoist. I am afraid he thought I was frigid.
