beautiful young girl models, one Rosalie and one little Marie. The head of Rosalie that I shall bring home is no adequate representation of her.  She was a dreadfully dirty creature, but today she came to show herself to us in her new clothes made for her by good Mrs Conant.  Black skirt square black sacque, blue apron and a spotless little thin cap, with the stiff white linen band tied around her head in a little bow behind. Her cheeks are like rose leaves and I have told you before about her sapphire eyes and straight dark eye brows. When she drops her head shyly and smiles she is perfectly charming. There is one strange thing about these peasants. They dont look common. They have the certain look of lace which one only sees in high bred people. The bougoise all look alike. And all unutterably stupid


Marguerite who is my model for one of my women's heads is of the broad rough type - eyes very far apart. She looks like a cow, but when you come to draw her you find her 'bony structure' as Mr Arthur calls it sound and fine and that she is distinguished. That lovely girl at Upper Lehigh Lizzie, was'nt she? with the rhododendron leaves was the only one like this I ever saw. There is no one here as beautiful as she except another Marguerite. The beautiful pale one whom I could'nt get, who in her way almost surpasses Lizzie.
