should think four of five feet from point to point— They quite fit up the narrow streets but one so wide one dont feel afraid of them. The women in Siena wear leghorn flats - too pretty and becoming for any thing. They simply tie them on the crowns of their heads and the soft brims flop all around and blow which ever way they like— We left at 3.45. and met two ladies in the Station - our American friends of the St. Gothard - were delighted to meet us and were going to Pisa they are Miss Otis and Mrs Houghton from Boston— They are very kind and nice and good though plain - about like Mrs Conant And we felt quite respectable going Chaperoned to the Hotel. We are going on to Genoa with them - at 3.55. this afternoon our first travelling on Sunday— But it is so damp here they are afraid to stay as they are delicate and we want to have the benefit of their protection as long as we can— There is nothing to see in Pisa but the Cathedral Baptistry and Campo Santo - but they are a lot. We saw them all this morning and May and I went up The Tower
