with the silk.  We only intended to get Satin - and by good luck found this - just what we wanted, out of fashion,- for fifty cents - a yard - and quite as wide as it ever comes.  It is my Xmas for Grandma - and we are all pleased.  I think this will interest you, if you liked the letter you got from me at Venice!  You do [[Do you]] know how intensely full of color that letter was?  It fairly glowed - and you did put ever so much "Venice in the letter". But Aunt E. has answered all that. 
To continue my chit chat - here comes Grandma down stairs, & has taken the Evig [[evening]] Paper, & reads aloud Extracts.  But you are not asleep on the sofa - & so the picture is incomplete! - Just think how forever it seems since you went away.  This fire has been burning months, & then had it's Summer's rest, & now it is all started with us again on another

winter! - I hope you will soon be in your winter quarters.  It must still be uncertain about Austin's—  Jamies letter was the last - and now we must wait until Monday.  I ran down to Etta's after dark, & both big boys came in, & finally both were seated at the piano! & both apparently intended to play duos—  They looked so cunning - sitting there.  James so serious - & his fingers really on the notes, and making accords.  Miss G- is a very merciful dispensation for them all - Cecil came in too, and does talk so enchantingly!  But I'll just tell you how I made a new bonnet for Grandma - with wide border of shirred surah,- and velvet Crown- & grey silk inside,- & not a bit of trimming at all,- and Every one praised it so that I am quite Elevated at my own success! - You will have to dress me, when you come home, for I'm not doing my self, and no one
