THE UTOPIANS.
Ladies' Reception and Musical Entertainment at the Club.

The ladies' reception given last evening by the Utopian Club at No. 1417 Locust street was in every respect a thoroughly enjoyable and pleasant affair. A fine musical program of some twelve numbers was provided for the occasion. The piano solos were by Fraulein Emma Emery, of Leipsic, who displayed fine technique, and performed in a very satisfactory manner. Although she did not appear to be as much at home in Chopin's "Nocturne" as in his "Valse," yet her playing of Raff's "Rigaudon" left nothing to be desired.
Mrs. Osborne, the alto, who sang an aria from Meyerbeer's Le Prophete, and Professor H. A. Clarke's "Ask Me No More," with violoncello obligato, possesses a powerful voice, containing many sweet notes, but not very sympathetic. Miss Pauline Mears, the soprano, who sang Liszt's "Die Lorelei" and a selection from Schumann, rendered the music in a very satisfactory manner, particularly the last mentioned selection. Mr. George Allen, Jr., performed two selections on the violoncello in a manner so satisfactory as to elicit much applause.
Professor Clarke accompanied Mrs. Osborne, and Mr. W. A. Borst was the accompanist for Mrs. Mears and Mr. Allen. The Beautiful hall of the Utopian Club was not large enough to accommodate the invited guests. Among those present were the following: Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Biddle, Mr. and Mrs. Theo.
