the heart aches and groanings in Paris had been audible for the last few weeks there would have been a lamentation louder than the rolling of cab wheels in the streets - but they are groanings which cannot be uttered nor by any means comforted. The Misery of knowing one has not done it and that others have done and are doing it. One thing one does not have to fear - neglect of real merit - One is always appreciated.

Yesterday afternoon I went to Mrs Green's and met a Miss Ruth Putnam there and we walked all the way down the Champs Elysées together packed with people and all the chairs full.
You never saw such a throng and most of them very common. I have not seen Minnie W's portrait but probably shall in the Salon - dont know who is doing it.

We supped with the Conants in their room - kind and nice as ever.

We did'nt have any correction last week at Colorossi's. Courtois was to have come but had to go to 50 studios to look at "Salon's". Think of it. Miss Foss told us that Julians was full of big canvasses brought to be criticised - most of them in muffs and boa's - and all common.
