They say that eating fresh Mackerel here is especially dangerous as they catch them in copper bottomed boats and they are sometimes tainted with verdigris—  But you need not be alarmed—  We are not asked out to dinner and the restaurants never have anything but "Crust in the pot" - bifteck garnished of potatoes or of cresses - veal to the little peas - natural mutton chop - or liver to the Italienne which is exactly the way we have it at home—  

Yesterday afternoon Aunt Sarah May Miss Wright and I went to see Mr Lasar's portrait with us and said to me "I hear you've sent your picture to the Salon - why did'nt you send it to our exhibition there you'd have been sure of getting it in"—  But I'll give him a chance with Mrs Conant - I've got a lovely frame for her and she looks quite nice—  I am going to send her tomorrow—  I am also going to send my baby to a little students exhibition at Colorossi's [[Colarossi's]] to which Mrs Stack has asked me to contribute.  She is going to Italy in a few days and we shall lose our Massière—  

Florence Esté has been dreadfully ill - for the last few days - with blood-poisoning from eating fish—  She dined out on Sunday night
