summit of the Tour Eiffel Bngal [[Bengal]] lights on its different stories, gathering darkness over head and increasing glow all about the good natured crowd surging every where—  Amid the splendid Garde Nationale in their brass helmets, horse hair plumes - effect much like 1st city troop - keeping order every where on their nice horses—  
The real fire works did'nt begin until nearly ten, and we sat there all that time - they set them off in the Place du Louvre, and the Trocadero up the river - so all the great fountains of different colored rockets went up to the zenith behind us and we saw them throgh [[through]] the trees [[strikethrough]] behind us [[/strikethrough]]—

My family—  
I have so many things that beggar description to tell about in this letter - that I feel but meagrely endowed for it—   I have seen the illuminations for the 6 May; I have been to the Exposition; and have heard Père Hyacinthe preach this afternoon—  We did'nt try to go to the opening of the Ex on Monday afternoon - the time Carnot was shot at - but about 6.30 Sallied both with the Sālis and
