It would have been perfect—  I'm more sorry on Maud's account than my own—  She would have had a very pleasurable pride in showing off a well and suitably dressed American friend—  I never wanted lovely becoming day clothes so much before and probably never shall again—  The luncheons and garden parties are what stagger me—  If I only had my white men's riding waist—
