and then here to meet us. This is the house the great Darwin built and lived in for 40 years. And where all the children were brought up, Mother Darwin has a house in Cambridge, and comes here in summer. She and some of the rest of them are coming here in a few days when we are gone. She is a noble old woman but delicate, and does not often see people. She expressed a wish to see me, however, so one day we went to the Grove for a few minutes. She was out in the garden in a wheeled chair. Made me think of both grandma and Aunt Sopheonia - same sort of stuff. She told them afterwards that I was the sort of person she liked, and that a mouth like mine always showed a nice character.
I have almost made up my mind now to go back to Cambridge; though it will make me a month late starting for home. It is the orders that tempt me, and the idea of leaving some work in Cambridge. The Darwins want me to do 'George' and if I have young Mrs good heart that will be two, and Maud is sure there will be others. I am not going to ask but $75 apiece for them in either pastel or oil as of course They don't really know me there and besides in so short a time I shouldnt like to undertake a greater responsibilty, If I did three it would be $225 which seems a
