May 29, 1901 My dear Parents, Saturday afternoon I went with Mrs. F to see Irving in Coliolanus [[??]] It was a - great show. The scenes are planed by Alma Tadema. Irving is not much like Horton. Mrs. F pointed out many noted people Sunday went to church with the Fs made a call with the family in the afternoon, The weather is fine. Monday Went with Mr. F to the Academy. It is a good show. Sargent in two is the leader, his other work is in tone a new departure for him. Shannon appears well and next in importance a man named Statt. As a whole I think the work is above the present Salon. Sargents Wertheimer girls are changed both appear to have been all painted over since I saw them in the studio. He has

"Coliolanus" is most likely Sir Henry Irving's production of Coriolanus that opened at the Lyceum Theater on April 19, 1901. Alma-Tadema did the costume design.
"Shannon" is probably painter James Jebusa Shannon a contemporary of Sargent's
