Dear Parents -

Today was a day for me Collin - (Rapheal) gave me such a fine 'crit' that the boys thought I ought to set up another treat. He said my painting was a fine appreciation of color. That I worked as though I loved each [plaine?], that the head on the figure was full of commendable bits. He even shook hands with me on going out. And this has all happened not because he is such a fine teacher that my work has gone ahead under him, but from John Sargents tips. His method is the key to successful representations of nature. And Collin has not yet, I think, analyzed my work as he will. He asked where I had studied. He said I painted not as a student but an artist. I was wild with joy. Collin doesn't know what values are and I am from Sargent beginning, to feel them.
