in the afternoon I am painting another interior of the life class with the model in the foreground. And Geroado the professor was good enough to say it was not bad that I showed some ability. You may say such remarks are useless but they have given me great confidence in my own little self. I feel as though I could eventually paint any thing. At first I used to give my studies away to the men that asked now each week I sell them for the price of materials. The best I shall keep of course but you don't care for many such things to be preserved. The rudest Frenchman now treats me politely in the school. And America's stock is high. I work mornings from eight until twelve and from half past one till 5.30 o'clock. Painting now all the time.

Shall remain through July in the school. It is time wasted for me to paint landscapes. You will yet be proud of me if I can keep going.
